Technical Writing 2020 by a Medical student


  Technical writing is an English course where the first year medical students study it during their summer semester. The course instructor and the one who teaches it is Mr. Saif Al-Dhahli. The course is subdivided into 3 assignments. Assignment 1 is an announced Quiz and it carries 25% of the total weightage. It consists of reading questions where each question should be solved within 2 minutes. The quiz is planned to start on Thursday the 18th of June on the Moodle website. Assignment 2 consists of Online group discussion. Students are divided by the instructor into groups. Each group will be given a topic to talk about where each student should not speak less than 3 minutes and no more than 5 minutes. The meeting is going to be held in an app called Zoom and groups are given a specific time to start their meeting. The assignment carries 20% and it will start on the 5th of July. At last assignment 3 is based on a website design with the help of Blogger. This website is to be made by students immediately after they start their first week and ends on the 9th of July. This website aims to make the students post the work and assignments assigned by their course instructor. On the last day, the students are required to submit their website by copying the link and pasting it in Moodle where the instructor will review itThis assignment carries the highest weightage compared to others which are 55%. Technical writing is a very essential way for people to express or convey the message they want to send in a more professional way. Characteristics of technical writing are that it is a more direct and formal way of writing as compared to Academic writing. Not only that but also Technical writing should be very informative, detailed, and very structured. Technical writing is more likely used in industries and workplaces, while Academic writing is used in an educational institution, digital and printed media as well as literary organization.
